Speaking to IQNA at the 32nd Tehran International Holy Quran Exhibition, Muhammad Abu Osama referred to the ways of conveying Quranic concepts in society through the language of art and said, “To this end, we must focus on education and utilize arts for the writing of the Quran and Hadith.”
He added, “I always say that for this purpose, we must focus on education and training, especially in the field of Quranic calligraphy. We should emphasize that artistic disciplines, particularly calligraphy, should not be used for trivial matters. Instead, we should utilize this art for the transcription of the Quran, Hadith, and Islamic Hikma (wisdom), and highlight these issues in the educational process.”
Asked about his activities, he said, “I am a technology engineer, and after retiring at the age of 60, I turned to Arabic calligraphy. I have focused on calligraphy of the Quran and pieces featuring themes of Islamic Arabic calligraphy.”
Abu Osama, who is taking part in the exhibition for the first time, hailed the expo, saying he has never seen such a level of attention and dedication to the Quran anywhere else as he has in Iran.
“Here, there is a significant focus on the Quran and Quranic activities. I am pleased to be present at this exhibition and to witness these activities and Quranic art up close.”
He said he has previously participated in Quran exhibitions in Algeria and European countries like France, and he believes that a commendable selection of works has been presented at the Tehran Quran Exhibition.
“In the international section of the exhibition, I closely observed the artworks displayed by artists from Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, and other countries, which caught my attention. It must be said that these works are of a high standard for the exhibition.”
He also elaborated on the situation of Quranic calligraphy in Algeria, saying it is growing and getting better year by year.
